POLITICS

Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini told TV show “Dirittoerovescio” that he would be happy if Cabinet Undersecretary Giancarlo Giorgetti were appointed EU Commissioner.

The captain of rescue ship Sea-Watch 3 said on Thursday European states had no interest in finding a political solution for the 42 migrants aboard her vessel, now positioned off the Italian island of Lampedusa.

ECONOMY

ISTAT releases flash June CPI and HICP data (0800 GMT).

ATLANTIA

Tensions between one of Italy’s ruling parties and motorway operator Atlantia burst into open warfare on Thursday after a senior minister. Luigi Di Maio, vowed to revoke its toll-road concession, saying the firm would lose market value and be “cooked” as a result.

Asked whether the government should revoke Atlantia’s motorway concession, Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini told TV show “DirittoeRovescio” on Thursday evening that he was waiting for a team of lawyers to say what should be done.

Salvini also called for caution when commenting on companies to avoid causing troubles to their employees.

(*) Salvini threw some support behind motorway operator Atlantia after a government partner vowed to revoke its toll-road concession, highlighting growing divisions within the ruling coalition.

TELECOM ITALIA

Italian phone group hopes the unanimous appointment of a board member on Thursday will help improve relations between its top shareholders ahead of crucial decisions on its network.

(*) The government is pushing for a single network but the process is complicated and market rules must be followed, Il Sole 24 Ore cited Open Fiber Chairman Franco Bassanini as saying, adding the decision was up to shareholders. He said the idea of losing control of one’s network was no longer taboo.

(*) The CEO of phone group Fastweb, which has its own broadband network in Italy, told La Repubblica the group wanted to be an independent wholesale operator.

MEDIASET

Italy’s largest commercial broadcaster is close to signing a deal with Comcast’s SKY Italia to purchase free-to-air broadcasting rights of UEFA Champions League matches for the next two seasons, two sources close to the matter said on Thursday.

Enel plans to increase its stake in Enel Americas by up to 5% from its current 56.8%.

FIAT CHRYSLER Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, General Motors Co and Ford escalated a price war in June in one of the few vehicle market segments that offers substantial profits - and one in which the three Detroit automakers enjoy an oligopoly, shielded by heavy tariffs on foreign competition.

Infrastructure fund F2i is ready to buy Italian towers group Rai Way with a view to consolidating the sector, Il Messaggero said.

A unit of Italian construction group Salini Impregilo won a contract worth $215 million in Argentina.

The company has extended its agreement for access to Open Fiber’s broadband network beyond the 271 cities currently covered to the so-called uneconomic areas of the country, Il Sole 24 Ore said, citing Tiscali’s shareholder meeting.

DOVALUE

Italy’s top bad loan specialist doValue paid about 360 million euros ($409.2 million) to buy 85% of Altamira Asset Management, the company said in a statement on Thursday.
