Italy - Factors to watch on Nov. 15

The following factors could affect Italian markets on Friday.

ECONOMY

Rating agency DBRS reviews Italy’s sovereign debt ratings.

ISTAT releases September foreign trade data (0900 GMT) and October CPI and HICP final data (1000 GMT).

Bank of Italy releases September data on public finances, state borrowing and debt.

TELECOM ITALIA

The group plans to sell a stake in the mobile mast business it is creating in Italy with rival Vodafone to infrastructure funds, the Italian group’s chief executive said on Thursday. (*) The chairman of broadband group Open Fiber was quoted as saying by Il Sole 24 Ore that Telecom Italia (TIM) could have a majority stake in a single ultra fast broadband network group provided it has not the majority of voting rights. (*) Italy’s antitrust on Friday gave a conditional green light to F2i’s acquisition of TIM unit Persidera.

MEDIASET (*) Talks to end the legal disputes between Mediaset and Vivendi are accelerating, Il Messaggero reported. The lawyers of the two groups should meet shortly to agree on the price at which Mediaset’s holding company Fininvest could buy the 20% stake Vivendi has in the Italian broadcaster and has put into the trust Simon Fiduciaria.

German broadcaster ProSiebenSat.1 is more interested in collaborating in digital growth areas than in a full-blown merger, Chief Executive Max Conze said on Thursday after Mediaset raised its shareholding.

(*) SAIPEM

Saipem is considering a combination with rival Subsea 7 SA to create a larger European oil services provider, Bloomberg reported, citing people with knowledge of the matter. A Saipem spokesman declined to comment the report.

GEOX

The shoe maker reported a 4.9% decline in sales at constant exchange rates in the first nine months and said it expected an overall decrease, low-to-mid single digit, in full-year sales.

The ECB has told Italy’s depositor guarantee fund FITD that its “qualified holding” approval allowing the fund to exceed the 10% threshold in Carige is imminent, according to Il Messaggero.

Thed eadling for binding offers to rescue the carrier might be further delayed, to the end of the month.

Gamma Bidco, controlled by Apollo Management funds, has launched a reverse accelerated book-building for the purchase of Gamenet Group shares at a price per share up to 13 euros.
