Kaz Minerals copper miner declares dividend, H1 earnings rise

LONDON, Aug 16 (Reuters) - Kaz Minerals copper miner on Thursday announced an interim dividend of 6 U.S. cents per share, an 18 percent increase in first-half copper production compared with a year ago and said earnings had risen.

Operating profit for the first half was $464 million, up from $291 million a year ago.

Kaz Minerals shares had performed strongly but plunged earlier this month after the Kazakhstan-focused miner said it was expanding into Russia with a deal to buy a copper project in Baimskaya for $900 million from a group of investors including Chelsea soccer club owner Roman Abramovich.
