May 19 (Reuters) - Honda’s world champion Marc Marquez won the French Grand Prix at Le Mans on Sunday for his third victory in the last four races to extend his lead at the top of the MotoGP standings.
The 26-year-old, who started in pole position, cruised to victory in 41 minutes, 53.647 seconds to reach 95 points for the season ahead of Andrea Dovizioso (87) and Alex Rins (75).
Dovizioso battled hard to finish second behind the Spaniard in his works Ducati, while team mate Danilo Petrucci joined him on the podium in third.
Marquez’s win was the 300th premier class victory for the Honda team and came 53 years after Jim Redman, of then Rhodesia, claimed the first one at Hockenheim. (Reporting by Shrivathsa Sridhar in Bengaluru Editing by Toby Davis)
