Motor racing-Klien replaces sick Yamamoto for Singapore race

SINGAPORE, Sept 24 (Reuters) - Austrian driver Christian Klien will compete in his first Formula One race for four years at the Singapore Grand Prix on Sunday after the Hispania reserve was called in as a replacement for Sakon Yamamoto.

Yamamoto was due to compete in Singapore but the team announced on Friday that the Japanese driver had food poisoning and Klien, who took part in practice sessions earlier this season, would take his place.

The 27-year-old Klien drove his maiden Formula One season with Jaguar Racing in 2004 and spent the following two seasons with Red Bull.

His last race was the Italian Grand Prix in September 2006. He spent a season as a test driver with Honda in 2007 prior to joining Hispania for this season. (Editing by Clare Fallon; To query or comment on this story email sportsfeedback@thomsonreuters.com)
