Three metre tsunami could hit Japan - govt agency

TOKYO, Feb 28 (Reuters) - A tsunami of up to 3 metres could hit Japan’s Pacific coasts following the massive 8.8-magnitude earthquake that struck central Chile, a government agency official said on Sunday.

“Once our tsunami warning is issued, please evacuate to high ground and never go near the coast,” an official at the Japan Meteorological Agency told reporters.

The agency had said earlier the tsunami could hit the Japanese coast as early as 1:00 p.m. (0400 GMT).
