Rugby-Mapoe called up by Boks for injured Am

CAPE TOWN, May 28 (Reuters) - Centre Lionel Mapoe has been called into the Springbok squad for next month’s home test series against France after the uncapped Lukhanyo Am was ruled out with a fractured cheekbone, South African Rugby confirmed on Sunday.

Am was injured in the Sharks’ 22-10 Super Rugby victory over the Stormers on Saturday and will undergo surgery this week.

Mapoe made his Springbok debut against New Zealand in 2015 and has won 11 caps, eight at centre and three on the wing.

Coach Allister Coetzee has also added Sharks loose forward Jean-Luc du Preez to the squad he announced last week as cover in the back row. Du Preez made his Bok debut against Wales last November.

The first of three tests against France will be played in Johannesburg on June 10. (Reporting By Nick Said; Editing by Clare Fallon)
