South Africa's retail sales up 1.2 percent year/year in January

JOHANNESBURG, March 20 (Reuters) - South African retail sales rose 1.2 percent year on year in January after declining at a revised year-on-year rate of 1.6 percent in December, the statistics office said on Wednesday.

On a month-on-month basis, sales rose 1.5 percent in January. Sales were up 0.6 percent in the three months to the end of January compared with the same period last year, Statistics South Africa said. (Reporting by Olivia Kumwenda-Mtambo Editing by Alexander Winning)
