South Africa's retail sales up 1.9 percent y/y in May

JOHANNESBURG, July 18 (Reuters) - South African retail sales rose 1.9 percent year-on-year in May after increasing by 0.5 percent in April, the statistics office said on Wednesday.

On a month-on-month basis, sales rose 1.1 percent. Sales rose 2.4 percent in the three months to the end of May compared with the same period last year, Statistics South Africa said. (Reporting by Olivia Kumwenda-Mtambo Editing by James Macharia)
