RIO DE JANEIRO, Sept 5 (Reuters) - Right-back Edilson slammed home a free kick from 35 metres out to give Cruzeiro a share of the points in a 1-1 draw with Botafogo in Rio de Janeiro on Wednesday.
Luiz Fernando put the home side ahead after 10 minutes when he chested down a ball in the box and hammered home from.
Edilson got the equaliser with his spectacular free kick 26 minutes later and while Botafogo had the better of the second half, with Igor Rabello hitting the bar with a header, they could not get the winner their pressure deserved.
The point lifts Botafogo into 14th place in the 20-team Serie A, while Cruzeiro sit seven places above them.
Internacional lead the table with 46 points from 22 games, 14 more than Cruzeiro and 20 ahead of Botafogo. (Reporting by Andrew Downie; Editing by Greg Stutchbury)
