RIO DE JANEIRO, Nov 18 (Reuters) - A first-half strike from Erik gave Botafogo a 1-0 win over Internacional on Sunday and extended the Rio club’s good run of form to four wins in a row.
The result dealt a serious blow to Internacional’s slim title hopes.
Second in the Serie A before the match began, the Porto Alegre side fell to third place and are now six points behind leaders Palmeiras with three games remaining.
Flamengo beat Sport 1-0 and are now five off the lead.
Botafogo’s goal came three minutes before halftime when Erik chested down a cross from the right and fired home a low drive from 12 metres out. (Reporting by Andrew Downie Editing by Christian Radnedge)
