RIO DE JANEIRO, Oct 21 (Reuters) - A well-worked goal from Luciano gave Fluminense a 1-0 Serie A win over Atletico Mineiro on Sunday which helped to keep their Copa Libertadores qualification hopes alive.
Fabio Santos missed a penalty for the visitors two minutes into the second half and Fluminense took advantage of the let off when Luciano ended a nice counter attack 15 minutes later.
Fluminense were down to 10 men when Matheus Alessandro was sent off eight minutes from time but they held on to secure the win. The result kept alive their hopes of a top six spot - and a place in next year’s Copa Libertadores.
Fluminense are ninth in Brazil’s Serie A with 40 points, six adrift of sixth-placed Atletico. (Writing by Andrew Downie, editing by Pritha Sarkar)
