Soccer-Van Gaal to step down as AZ Alkmaar coach - report

AMSTERDAM, March 28 (Reuters) - AZ Alkmaar coach Louis van Gaal will step down at the end of this season, NOS television reported on Friday.

The former Dutch national coach, who also had spells in charge of Ajax Amsterdam and Barcelona, succeeded Co Adriaanse in 2005.

According to NOS-TV, Van Gaal and AZ mutually agreed to terminate his contract at the end of the season.

Van Gaal guided AZ to second place in his first season while last season they finished third, also losing the cup final to Ajax.

This season AZ have struggled and occupy 12th place. (Reporting by Theo Ruizenaar, editing by Justin Palmer)
