MILAN, Jan 14 (Reuters) - Sampdoria have signed Fiorentina striker Giampaolo Pazzini, the Serie A clubs said on Wednesday.
The former Italy Under-21 international, 24, was a regular last season for the Florence side but the purchase of Alberto Gilardino from AC Milan in the close season meant his opportunities this term have been limited.
Fiorentina have allowed him to leave despite striker Adrian Mutu suffering an elbow injury which could keep him out for a month. As part of the deal, Fiorentina have taken Samp attacker Emiliano Bonazzoli on loan.
“Fiorentina announce the permanent transfer of Giampaolo Pazzini to Sampdoria,” the club said on their website (it.violachannel.tv) without giving any further details of the deal.
Media reports had said English Premier League club Everton were keen on Pazzini, who will now partner Antonio Cassano in attack for Samp.
The Genoa club, sixth last term, have been in Serie A’s bottom half all this season and visit AS Roma in the league later on Wednesday. (Writing by Mark Meadows; Editing by Sonia Oxley)
