Soccer-Ecuador sink Bolivia with Urrutia penalty

QUITO, Aug 22 (Reuters) - A first-half penalty from midfielder Patricio Urrutia gave Ecuador a 1-0 win over Bolivia in their friendly on Wednesday.

Urrutia converted in the 34th minute after forward Cristian Benitez was fouled in the area by Leonel Reyes

Argentina-born goalkeeper Marcelo Elizaga was Ecuador’s most important player as he defied the visitors with a string of saves.

Elizaga turned away shots from Ronald Raldes and Augusto Andaveris before the penalty and made late saves to defy Darwin Pena and Nicolas Suarez.

Bolivia’s frustration mounted as Carlos Saucedo had a goal disallowed for offside.

Ecuador substitute Alex Bolanos was dismissed in the 90th minute for elbowing after only 12 minutes on the field.
