Colman's last-minute goal nets Dallas tie with Colorado

Cristian Colman scored in the 89th minute to rally FC Dallas to a 1-1 tie with the Colorado Rapids on Saturday night at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas.

Colman headed in a long pass from Mauro Diaz from the left corner of the goal box past Tim Howard and into the right corner of the net for his first goal of the season.

FC Dallas (1-0-2), coached by former Rapids head coach Oscar Pareja (2012-13), came in leading the MLS in fewest goals allowed (two) and off a 1-1 draw with Portland on March 24. Jimmy Maurer had three saves for the hosts who outshot Colorado, 17-9, and had a 63.1-percent to 36.9-percent edge in time of possession.

Despite blowing the late lead, the tie still might be considered a moral victory for Colorado (1-1-2) which is now 1-16-3 in its last 20 road games dating back to the start of the 2017 season, scoring just nine goals during that span.

Forward Joe Mason scored his second goal of the season and Howard had four saves for the Rapids.

FC Dallas dominated possession during a scoreless first half, controlling the ball for 63.5 percent of the time and finishing with a 7-2 edge in shots. Anton Nedyalkov had the best chance for a goal for the hosts in the 24th minute with a short shot from the left side that Howard stopped.

Maurer also had a pair of nice saves, the biggest coming in the 25th minute when Dominique Badji, coming off a hat trick in a 3-0 win over Philadelphia, spun around at the top of the box and fired a left-footed shot off a pass from Mason, who nearly tapped in the rebound on the goal line.

Mason then gave the Rapids a 1-0 lead in the 62nd minute when he finished a 2-on-1 with Badji with a left-footed kick into the top left corner of the net.
