Houston Dynamo goalkeeper Tyler Deric was reinstated by Major League Soccer, more than eight months after his arrest on misdemeanor assault charges in a domestic case.
The team subsequently announced that Deric will be loaned to Rio Grande Valley FC.
Deric, 29, missed 19 games due to the suspension. He entered into a plea agreement with the Harris County District Attorney and the charges against him will be dismissed if he completes a year-long diversion program. Deric’s reinstatement is subject to him abiding by and completing the program.
Deric allowed only one goal in the final month of last season and was named the MLS Player of the Month before his arrest in October. The club declined to exercise a contract option, but re-signed Deric in February - although it was uncertain whether he was paid during his suspension.
The Houston native was arrested Oct. 31 for allegedly head-butting a woman he was dating.
