Los Angeles FC forward Marco Urena will miss at least one month due to facial fractures suffered during Sunday’s victory over the Seattle Sounders.
Urena is slated to undergo surgery on Friday. He will be re-evaluated four weeks after the procedure.
Urena was injured in a first-half collision with Seattle goalkeeper Stefan Frei. He remained in the game but had numbness and swelling around his left eye after the match.
Further testing discovered the fractures.
The injury also is a concern in terms of Urena’s availability for the World Cup, which begins in mid-June. Urena is a member of the Costa Rica national team.
Urena is tied for the MLS lead with five assists. He hasn’t scored a goal yet this season.
