Minnesota United midfielder Ethan Finlay will undergo surgery in the coming days to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, the team announced Tuesday.
Finlay is not expected to return for the 2018 MLS season.
Finlay suffered the injury during Minnesota’s 3-1 loss to the Seattle Sounders on Sunday. He was substituted at halftime of the match.
Finlay, 27, was off to a hot start this season, with two goals and an assist in seven games. He had three goals and three assists in 11 games for Minnesota last season after being acquired from the Columbus Crew on Aug. 9, 2017. Finlay, a native of Duluth, Minn., has 35 goals and 34 assists in seven MLS seasons.
