The New England Revolution announced Thursday the acquisition of Colombian midfielder Luis Alberto Caicedo on a season-long loan from Colombian second-division club Cortulua.
Caicedo will be added to the Revs’ roster using targeted allocation money pending the receipt of his international transfer certificate and P-1 visa and will occupy an international roster slot. The deal includes a permanent transfer option for 2019.
“We are pleased to add a young player in Luis who displays significant potential at the midfield position,” Revolution general manager Michael Burns said in a statement. “We believe Luis will help strengthen our central midfield and add to the competition at the position.”
Caicedo, 21, scored three goals over more than three seasons in Colombia’s top two tiers of professional soccer, making 70 league appearances (67 starts) for Cortulua from 2015-18.
He is expected to compete for a starting role with New England.
