Red Bulls goalie Robles' streak of 183 starts to end Sunday

It’s been nearly six seasons since the New York Red Bulls have played a game without Luis Robles in net, but that ends Sunday.

The team announced that the goalie will miss Sunday’s game against the Atlanta United due to a knee injury he suffered last week against the Colorado Rapids.

Robles, who is considered week-to-week, ends his run after 183 straight starts — an MLS record. He broke the previous record of 118 in 2016.

It’s the first time since joining the Red Bulls out of Germany in 2012 that he has missed a start. His record is 86-54-43 with 52 shutouts over that span.

The Red Bulls captain will be replaced by Ryan Meara in goal for Sunday’s game.
