The New York Red Bulls acquired German midfielder Marc Rzatkowski on loan from sister club Red Bull Salzburg of the Austrian Bundesliga.
Rzatkowski, 27, will remain with New York on a season-long loan and will take an international spot on the club’s roster.
“We are pleased to welcome Marc to New York,” Red Bulls sporting director Denis Hamlett said in a statement. “Marc adds quality and experience to our group and has proven that he can play anywhere in the midfield. We look forward to him helping our team and sharing in our success this season.”
Rzatkowski joined Salzburg from German second-division club St. Pauli in June 2016, and has recorded five goals in 27 first-team appearances. He had three goals and three assists in 14 appearances across all competitions this season.
Rzatkowski has already joined the Red Bulls for the club’s preseason camp in Oldsmar, Fla.
“We are glad to have Marc on board,” said head coach Jesse Marsch. “He brings experience to our locker room and can play in different positions within the midfield. He has qualities that we like and a personality that we think fits well within our group. He is excited to come to New York and be a part of our team.”
