Orlando City FC issued a statement on Saturday refuting a claim by Turkish club Besiktas that it has completed a transfer move for Lions striker Cyle Larin.
“Orlando City SC is aware of the announcement made by Besiktas J.K. regarding forward Cyle Larin,” the statement read. “The Club has not agreed to terms on a transfer of Larin and will take all necessary action against Besiktas in response to the announcement.
“Larin remains under contract with Orlando City through 2019 and is expected to join his teammates at preseason camp later this month.”
Besiktas appeared to announce the acquisition of the Canadian national team forward in a tweet on Saturday that included a photo of Larin in a Besiktas shirt.
Larin, 22, has spent his entire three-year professional career with the Lions, but has expressed his desire to play in Europe after racking up 43 MLS goals.
Besiktas recently completed the sale of star forward Cenk Tosun to Everton in England, and multiple reports in recent weeks have tied Larin’s name to the Turkish side.
A Lions team spokesman said on Friday that no offer for Larin had yet been received, while reports indicated that he was indeed in Instanbul undergoing medical tests.
