Sutter's late goal lifts Orlando City over Red Bulls

Scott Sutter scored his first goal of the season in the 86th minute off a deflection and Orlando City earned its first win of the season, 4-3 over the New York Red Bulls on Saturday.

During a wild game at Orlando City Stadium, the Red Bulls (2-2-0), playing a man down after an injury, tied it 3-3 on a diving Aaron Long header in the 82nd minute off a free kick by Marc Rzatkowski.

But Sutter’s shot from distance deflected off teammate Josue Colman and wrong-footed goalkeeper Luis Robles.

Dom Dwyer, a noted Red Bulls Killer, gored them yet again. In his first action of the season, Dwyer scored two goals, including the goal in the 48th minute, to deliver a 3-2 lead.

Dwyer fooled the Red Bulls on the play off a throw-in from Mohamed El-Munir, racing past the last defender ahead of the throw and ripping a lefty shot into the far corner. He now has seven goals in eight matches against the Red Bulls.

Dwyer, who had an injury-plagued preseason, was subbed out for Chris Mueller in the 64th minute. Mueller nearly upped the lead in the 73rd minute, but his header attempt was saved brilliantly by Robles in the bottom left corner.

During a wild first half, the teams combined for four goals in the first 29 minutes. Dwyer tied it 2-2 in the 26th minute with a controversial finish in which he overpowered Robles at the near post on a corner kick by Yoshimar Yotun.

Dwyer was at his threatening best, often tangling with strapping Red Bulls defender Aurelien Collin, a former Orlando City star.

The match got off to a fast pace with lots of early pressure. The Red Bulls took an early lead on Florian Valot’s first career goal in the seventh minute. On a brilliant service, Alejandro Romero Gamarra passed the ball to the back post and the Frenchman Valot headed it home.

Eight minutes later, Will Johnson equalized for Orlando City with his 30th career goal on an easy tap-in off a cross from Justin Meram. Derrick Etienne put New York back ahead in the 24th minute with a pretty left-footed attempt off a Valot pass.
