Dynamo host Union aiming to extend unbeaten run

The Houston Dynamo will look to extend their unbeaten streak to five when they host the struggling Philadelphia Union on Wednesday night at BBVA Compass Stadium.

The Dynamo (7-6-6, 27 points) most recently played to a 1-1 draw against FC Dallas on Saturday.

Forward Mauro Manotas tied his career high with his 10th goal of the season for the Dynamo, who are also unbeaten at home in seven straight in league play and 10 in a row across all competitions.

“In the second half we showed fire, we showed that we wanted to win and we showed more desire,” Dynamo head coach Wilmer Cabrera told MLSSoccer.com following the draw against Dallas. “I have to take the second half. I don’t take the first half. The first half I didn’t feel comfortable the way we played. The second half we played much better. We played the way you have to play in these types of derbies, these type of games.”

In their 5-0-2 streak at home, the Dynamo have outscored the opposition 19-7.

The Union have dropped three of their past four league games, including 3-1 to the LA Galaxy on Saturday at Talen Energy Stadium. After building a 1-0 lead, the Union (7-10-3, 24 points) were soundly defeated.

“The players were upset in the locker room, felt like we didn’t give our best,” Union head coach Jim Curtin told reporters. “We know that we have a group that still has confidence from the Orlando (U.S. Open Cup) quarterfinal, a group that still is playing good soccer. Now we have to turn it around and go on the road and chase three points.”

The Union have won just two of nine road games this season, with their last triumph away from Philadelphia coming July 11 at Chicago, a 4-3 victory.

Philadelphia midfielder Ilsinho is out due to a strained right quad.

Houston has won all six games at home against the Union since the opening of the 2011 MLS Cup playoffs.
