Soccer-Spain and Russia go to penalties after 1-1 draw

MOSCOW, July 1 (Reuters) - Russia’s World Cup round of 16 tie against Spain went to penalties on Sunday after the two sides drew 1-1 after 90 minutes and extra time.

Spain took a 12th-minute lead when veteran Russia defender Sergei Ignashevich put into his own net. Artem Dzyuba equalised from a penalty for the hosts three minutes before halftime after Gerard Pique handled in the area. (Reporting by Brian Homewood Editing by Christian Radnedge)
