Sept 8 (Reuters) - Sports news in brief from around the world:

Soccer - Premier League club West Ham United confirmed that former Italy coach Roberto Donadoni and Italian Gianfranco Zola had both been interviewed for the vacant manager’s job.

West Ham director Mike Lee told BBC Radio that contact had also been made with representatives of Croatia coach and former West Ham player Slaven Bilic.

Cycling - Italian Alessandro Petacchi won the opening stage of the Tour of Britain on Sunday in his first race since returning from a doping sanction.

Sprint specialist Petacchi, banned in May after testing postive for salbutamol, edged out Britain’s former track world champion Rob Hayles in the first of eight stages.

Ice hockey - Slovakia crushed Bulgaria 82-0 in a 2010 Winter Olympics qualifier in the Latvian town of Liepaja.

Bulgaria conceded a goal every 44 seconds after losing 30-1 to Croatia and 41-0 to Italy.
