Shell begins pulling workers from U.S. Gulf due storm

HOUSTON, June 26 (Reuters) - Shell Oil Co (RDSa.L) said on Saturday non-essential workers from production platforms and drilling rigs in U.S.-regulated areas of the Gulf of Mexico oilfields were being evacuated due to the forecast path of Tropical Storm Alex.

About 300 workers will be removed from the Gulf on Saturday, Shell said in a statement. The company expects minimal impact to its oil, natural gas production and drilling operations.

The Gulf of Mexico provides about a quarter of U.S. crude oil and 11 percent of the country’s natural gas. (Reporting by Erwin Seba; Editing by Doina Chiacu)
