Harvey likely to strengthen into major hurricane before Texas landfall-NHC

Aug 24 (Reuters) - Hurricane Harvey is expected to strengthen into a major hurricane by Friday before it reaches the Texas coast, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said on Thursday.

The hurricane, now about 245 miles (400 km) south-southeast of Port Oconnor, Texas with maximum sustained winds of 85 miles per hour (140 km/h), could bring heavy rainfall and storm surges to the coast, the NHC said.

The storm is likely to make landfall along the middle of the Texas coast by Friday night or early Saturday, it added.
