Houston-area watershed levels have crested -county official

HOUSTON, Aug 30 (Reuters) - More homes in areas of west Houston have flooded but water levels in the Houston-area have crested, reducing the danger of new flooding, a county official said on Wednesday.

The number of homes flooded by waters near two Houston reservoirs has climbed to 4,000, said Jeff Linder, a Harris County flood control official, said in a televised briefing.

“We are getting close to the peak (water level)” in two reservoirs in west Houston, Linder said. “We are looking at a significantly better situation” than what officials were expecting, he said. (Reporting by Gary McWilliams; Editing by Paul Simao)
