Spanish top seed Nadal has dropped only one set on his way to the quarter-finals, recording dominant victories in the first three rounds before overcoming a feisty challenge from Diego Schwartzman in the last 16.

The world number one has won five consecutive matches against Cilic, a run that started with him defeating the Croat in the last 16 at Melbourne Park in 2011.

Cilic has lost only two sets en route to the quarter-finals and celebrated his 100th grand slam victory when he ground down Spain’s Carreno Busta.

The former U.S. Open champion beat Nadal once before, in the China Open semi-finals in 2009, but the Spaniard will offer the Croatian the toughest test of his title credentials he has faced in Melbourne.
