Sept 4 (Reuters) - A look at the form and records of Argentina’s Juan Martin del Potro and Austria’s Dominic Thiem ahead of their fourth round match at the U.S. Open on Monday.
Juan Martin del Potro
The Argentine has beaten Switzerland’s Henri Laaksonen apart from Spaniards Adrián Menendez-Maceiras and Roberto Bautista Agut without dropping a set so far in the tournament and looks in good form ahead of the fourth round encounter with Dominic Thiem. The two faced off at the same stage at Flushing Meadows last year where the Austrian retired midway through the match with an injury. Del Potro, the 2009 U.S. Open champion, is looking for his first title of the year.
The Austrian youngster has progressed with efficient performances against Australia’s Alex De Minaur, American Taylor Fritz and France’s Adrian Mannarino. Having beaten world number one Rafa Nadal in the quarter-finals in Rome, three-times grand slam winner Andy Murray in Barcelona and Novak Djokovic at Roland Garros this year, Thiem could pose a serious threat to Del Potro.
