LONDON (Reuters) - British lawmakers will vote later on Thursday on a proposal which aims to make it more difficult for the next prime minister to pursue a no-deal Brexit by suspending parliament.

House of Commons speaker John Bercow selected an amendment put forward by lawmakers from both the governing Conservatives and opposition parties to legislation relating to Northern Ireland.

The proposal would require parliament to be recalled to sit for several days in September and October, nominally to debate progress updates from the government on re-establishing Northern Ireland’s collapsed executive, even if it has been suspended.

The vote is due after 1220 GMT.
