Britain's biggest gas store reopens Saturday after leak

LONDON (Reuters) - Britain’s biggest gas storage facility, Rough, resumed supplies into the UK gas network on Saturday after shutting on Thursday because of a gas leak at the reception terminal, a spokesman for operator Centrica Storage said.

Flows of gas into the network through the terminal at Easington, north-east England, rose from zero to just over 6 million cubic metres a day at around 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, according to data from National Grid.

Centrica said on Thursday it expected production from Rough, a key source of heating gas on cold winter days, to resume by early Saturday.

National Grid data showed Norway’s Langeled gas pipeline, which feeds into a different part of the terminal on the east coast of England, rose to around 66 mcm/day on Saturday morning, while inputs from the South Hook LNG terminal declined to around 32 mcm.
