Holder back, West Indies bat against India in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD (Reuters) - West Indies captain Jason Holder won the toss and elected to bat in the second and final test as they chase a series-levelling victory against India on Friday.

The tourists, thumped inside three days by an innings and 272 runs in the Rajkot series-opener, made two changes with Holder returning from injury to replace Keemo Paul and spinner Jomel Warrican substituting Sherman Lewis.

“It was tough sitting outside and watching the game but it happens. It’s just a matter for us to rebound and play some proper cricket in this game,” Holder said at the toss.

“We all know we are capable of doing that and we have done some really good things in the past. It’s just a matter for us to pull it together in this game.”

Kemar Roach, back after a family bereavement, was conspicuously absent in the West Indies playing XI despite his pace and experience.

India counterpart Virat Kohli conceded he, too, would have preferred to bat first.

“It looks like a good pitch. Hyderabad usually remains the same, we’re not too bothered about the toss but yes, we’d have batted first,” Kohli said.

India rested Mohammed Shami and handed a test debut to fellow paceman Shardul Thakur in the lone change to their side.

Teams:

India: Lokesh Rahul, Prithvi Shaw, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli (captain), Ajinkya Rahane, Rishabh Pant (wicketkeeper), Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Umesh Yadav, Kuldeep Yadav, Shardul Thakur

West Indies: Kraigg Brathwaite, Kieran Powell, Shai Hope, Shimron Hetmyer, Sunil Ambris, Roston Chase, Shane Dowrich (wicketkeeper), Jason Holder (captain), Jomel Warrican, Devendra Bishoo, Shannon Gabriel
