France's Macron says Europe must not let Brexit dominate debate

PARIS (Reuters) - French President Emmanuel Macron said on Tuesday that the European Union needed to move the debate on its future beyond Brexit, and repeated his desire to see a strengthening of economic and monetary union for a core group of countries.

“I would rather build the future than go over the past,” he told an annual assembly of French ambassadors.

“Brexit should not take up all our energy,” he added.

Macron said there would be more initiatives on the future of the bloc after the German elections in September.
