PARIS (Reuters) - France lowered its final June inflation figures from earlier estimates, although inflation in the euro zone’s second-biggest economy remained near six-year highs.

The INSEE national statistics body said on Thursday that European Union-harmonised consumer prices rose 2.3 percent in June, down from an initial estimate of 2.4 percent.

The European Central Bank has indicated it will the it bond-buying programme it set during the financial crisis to ward off deflation.

The ECB’s chief economist, Peter Praet, said this week he was confident inflation in the euro zone would continue accelerating towards the ECB’s target of just under 2 percent, even after the end of its large-scale bond purchases.
