French consumer spending rose by 0.4% in May

PARIS (Reuters) - French consumer spending rose by 0.4% in May compared to the previous month, driven by a pick up in spending on energy due to lower-than-expected temperatures last month, data from the INSEE stats agency showed on Friday.

The consumer spending figure beat forecasts, with nine analysts polled by Reuters having predicted a 0.2% rise for May.
