LONDON (Reuters) - Britain’s government will ensure that the country’s health and care services have the resources needed to prepare for the winter months, a spokesman for Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on Wednesday, in response to warnings from health bodies.

“We have taken unprecedented action to support the NHS (National Health Service), and thanks to the hard work of NHS staff, hospitals were not overwhelmed,” the spokesman told reporters.

“We will continue to ensure that our health and care services have the resources they need and are working closely with the NHS to prepare for the winter,” he said, adding Britain still had “surge capacity” available at temporary hospitals.
