LONDON (Reuters) - Tour operator TUI said it was cancelling all flights due to depart to mainland Spain and the Canary Islands on Sunday, after Britain’s government said all travellers would face a two-week quarantine on their return.

“We’re incredibly disappointed that we didn’t get more notice of this announcement, or that this decision wasn’t made yesterday, as many Brits travel on holiday at the weekend,” said TUI’s managing director for the UK and Ireland, Andrew Flintham.

“We also look to understand why quarantine has been issued for a whole country, including the Canary Islands and Balearic Islands, when the travel advice isn’t aligned,” he added.

Britain’s government has advised against all but essential travel to mainland Spain, but has said holidaymakers can continue to travel to Spain’s islands if they are willing to self-isolate afterwards.
