Spain says July agreement on EU recovery fund is 'possible and desirable'

MADRID (Reuters) - An agreement between the European Union member states over a coronavirus recovery fund is possible and desirable in July, Spain’s Foreign Minister Arancha Gonzalez said on Thursday after meeting with her Dutch counterpart Stef Blok.

“Spain thinks that an agreement on the recovery fund and EU budget is possible in July, is desirable in July, and we are going to put maximum effort into making it happen in July,” she said.

The EU has proposed a 750 billion euro ($841.73 billion) aid package to help countries deal with the fallout from the coronavirus crisis. Spain would be one of the main beneficiaries of the funds which would be financed by the European bloc.
