WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Any violent crackdown on peaceful protesters in Hong Kong would be a “mistake” and would be met with “swift consequences,” the leaders of U.S. House of Representatives’ Foreign Affairs Committee said on Wednesday.

The panel has called on Beijing “to cease encroaching on Hong Kong’s autonomy,” Democratic chairman Eliot Engel and top Republican Michael McCaul said in a statement.
