JAKARTA (Reuters) - Indonesian presidential challenger Prabowo Subianto, who is contesting official results showing he lost an April 17 election, urged on Wednesday all sides to refrain from violence after demonstrations turned violent and six people died.

“I urge all sides, the people who are expressing their aspirations, the police, the military and all sides to refrain from physical abuse,” the former general told a briefing.

The protests in the capital, Jakarta, followed an announcement before dawn on Tuesday by the election commission confirming that President Joko Widodo had comfortably won the election.
