Italy will ask for time to implement any eventual EU requests on budget - PM

ROME (Reuters) - Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said on Thursday he would ask for a long period of time to implement any eventual European Union requests on the government’s 2019 expansionary budget.

Addressing parliament the day after the European Commission took the first step towards disciplining Italy over its big-spending budget, Conte also said that EU demands to cut the deficit were “not compatible with the state of Italian economy”.
