ROME (Reuters) - Italy’s Economy Minister Giovanni Tria said on Thursday that “new elements” would be put forward regarding the government’s 2019 budget once talks start with the European Commission over the contested package.

He gave no further details.

The Commission took a first step on Wednesday towards disciplinary measures against Italy over its expansionary budget after Rome refused to modify it. Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte is due to meet the commission president on Saturday.
