Italy can make budget correction this year if necessary - official

ROME (Reuters) - Italy can make a budget correction this year if it is needed, an economy ministry official said on Friday without elaborating.

The European Commission has asked Italy to lower its structural deficit - adjusted for the business cycle and one-off items - by an additional 0.3 percentage points of gross domestic product this year.

“If a budget correction is necessary, we obviously will be able to do it,” Laura Castelli, a deputy economy minister, said in an interview with RAI state television.
