Factbox - New Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc

LONDON (Reuters) - Factbox on Monegasque Formula One driver Charles Leclerc, who will replace Kimi Raikkonen at Ferrari next year:- - - -

*Born October 16, 1997, Monte-Carlo.

*Became the youngest French cadet karting champion in 2009 and won a series of other karting titles. In 2014 he was the best rookie in the Formula Renault series and in 2015 best rookie in Formula Three.

*Winner of the 2016 GP3 series, when he also joined the Ferrari academy with the added role of development driver for Ferrari and Haas.

*Won the Formula Two title in 2017, with three races remaining, and made his F1 race debut with the Sauber team in March 2018.

*Scored his first Formula One points with sixth place in Azerbaijan in April.

*Jules Bianchi, the French Formula One driver and Ferrari protege who died in 2015 of head injuries sustained in a 2014 Japanese Grand Prix crash, was a family friend. Leclerc started karting at the track owned by Bianchi’s father Philippe.

*Like Bianchi, Leclerc is also managed by Nicolas Todt whose father is the head of the FIA, the sport’s governing body, and a former Ferrari boss.

*Leclerc’s father Herve died in June last year. Four days later, Leclerc won a Formula Two race in Azerbaijan.

*Sept 11 - Confirmed as a Ferrari driver for 2019, the first Monegasque to race for the Italian team.
