AMSTERDAM (Reuters) - A new nationalist party took 4.9 percent of the vote in Amsterdam’s municipal election on Wednesday, a result that may herald the splintering of the Dutch far right.

An exit poll conducted by national broadcaster NOS forecast that Forum for Democracy, led by self-styled intellectual Thierry Baudet, will claim two seats in the 45-seat city parliament, competing for the first time.

The Green-Left party took 22 percent of the vote and eclipsed the centrist D-66 party as the city’s largest.
