(Reuters) - Stade Francais have been awarded five European Challenge Cup points and Timisoara Saracens fined after an independent disciplinary committee said the Romanian club did not protect the pitch at the Dan Paltinisanu Stadium last week.
The sides were scheduled to meet last Saturday, but the fixture was postponed and subsequently cancelled due to poor weather conditions.
“The committee... determined that Timisoara Saracens’ preparation of the playing surface was deficient in that pitch covers were not provided, the undersoil heating system was not ready in good time and that no suitable alternative venue for the match was available,” European Professional Club Rugby (EPCR) said in a statement on Wednesday.
“The committee also found that there were no exceptional circumstances and it decided to award five match points to Stade Francais Paris on the basis of a four-try bonus point result of 28-0 and imposed a fine of 30,000 euros ($32,067) on Timisoara Saracens.”
Saracens and the EPCR can appeal the decision.
The five-point award takes Stade Francais to 16 in Pool 5, two behind second-placed Harlequins, who they play on Sunday.
