Title chase slip-up left us demoralised, says Spurs' Pochettino

(Reuters) - Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino admitted he found it hard to lift his squad following their demoralising defeat to West Ham United last weekend, which all but extinguished their Premier League title hopes.

Leaders Chelsea have the chance to wrap up their second title in three seasons when they visit West Bromwich Albion on Friday, which would leave Spurs battling to secure runners-up spot when they host Manchester United on Sunday.

“The season so far has been good, but when you don’t win you feel disappointed,” Pochettino told a news conference on Friday.

”It was difficult from Monday to Wednesday at training and it was difficult to be happy but then we have only been focused on Manchester United.

“We are looking forward to playing and the last game at White Hart Lane so there are many reasons to be focused.”

Spurs will play next season’s home games at Wembley while their new stadium is completed.

Having played at a temporary home during his time with Espanyol, Pochettino believes the move could inspire Spurs to win silverware.

”Why shouldn’t we win some trophies in the season at Wembley?“ he added. ”After leaving Sarria (Stadium), we spent 12 years at the Olympic Stadium in Montjuic, and won the Copa del Rey twice.

Spurs are unbeaten at home in the league this season, collecting a league-high 50 points from 18 games.
